  The food had always been very good. The service is attentive without hovering and being annoying. I always had hot water for my tea. Plates were removed promptly while having the buffet. Speaking of the buffet, all you can eat for $8.99. There is nowhere in Winnipeg that you can get that. Tell them you are diabetic and they will give you complimentary diabetic tea. Three of us had supper for $33.97. Overall my experience at Cathay House has always been excellent.

  Massive Chinese restaurant that has seemingly fallen out of favour in Winnipeg from its glory days. This place used to be packed all the time. My parents tell me if it's glory days back in the '80s. So it's a pretty standard Chinese menu for the lunch buffet, which was a great value at $7.99. I mean, you can barely get a meal from a fast food joint for that price. My only issue was one of my chicken balls was a little stale, but it's a cheap buffet, not a big deal. Now these guys had been shut down once for a health code violation. I saw that in the news before. When me and a coworker were at our table, the owner had come up to us and explained that there was an equipment malfunction that he didn't know about which was dripping oil. Meh, not a big health concern for me. If it was a rat infestation, that would be a bit of a different story. Service was great, prompt and polite. So to summarize, food was solid, service was great and price can't be beat.

  My Father, Sister and myself decided to visit this establishment due to the amazing deal they offer for brunch and I thought dinner as well. We arrived just after 5pm to enjoy a nice fathers day dinner. We asked about buffet and originally were told that it is over. Then the gentleman told us that the "Food is leftover you can see what is there and I will still charge you 9.99 each!!" First of all, LEFTOVER?? He told us that the BRUNCH started at 8am ended at 3pm....WHY in gods name would it still be available to customers? I could not have been more disgusted by anything. I will most certainly not EVER be going back to this restaurant and believe it extremely necessary to have them checked out for the health and safety of anyone going to their restaurant. Second I think it was ALSO EXTREMELY appalling to try and charge us for his literal garbage?? The sign said brunch was only $8.99 to begin with not the 9.99 he said he would charge....this place is absolutely disgusting in my books! If I could have posted this with 0 starts that would have been way more accurate!

  Used to be a great place. It's gone downhill to the point it's not even on the hill anymore. Beware the debit card scam. The girls punch in the amount of your bill wrong and after you pay tell you they entered the wrong amount. Then fix it and make you pay the balance. This way they can charge you the debit fee twice. Better off going to Royal Fork behind them.
